10 Dollar Challenge

Hollis arrived at the pier one morning and there was Ty. Not many folks were around and Albert was no where to be seen. “Ty I’ll give you 10 $ to walk that rail to the end of the pier and back” “Get your wallet out” Ty said as he hopped up on the east rail and headed south. Minutes later Ty returned on the west rail hopped down with his hand out and said”pay up-easiest 10 $ I ever made”😂When he wasn’t shooting pool or walking the rail Ty was snobbling cigar minnows and mullet like no other. It was an art form! Watching that dude glide a dead bait in the upper water column is something I’ll never forget RIP🤙

Few folks who have ever trimmed down an LY to make strips of the center flanks realize where that method came from.
Ty Flemming could render an LY into two perfect strips to add to a white jig in two minutes and have a 3 pound spanish mackerel flopping on the deck in two minutes more.
Those work great for jigging flounder and redfish too ;-)

Pat just told me the other day that Ty had passed on Imagine being a gremmie and hanging with Ty and Hollis! Those were unreal times Ty was a Renaissance man I remember him talking about the seven year cycle(el nino La Niña) way back in the day! He was also saying they should have built the old pier twice as long That first decade of the old pier was the best !

Just remembered the boat rod pool cues that Ty came up with! It was either John G or Green Steel that perfected the design for him- hell yeah!

It must have been John. There are so many hilarious stories about Capt. Ty that someone needs to write a book. My brother, Paul, has some good ones including boat painting with a rag and improving the fishing experience by using topless deckhands!

We tinkered with a couple cues. Jerry Lowe beat me out of one playing it the Keg one night and Ty had to have it. So he bet Jerry that stick for his. Ty won and gave my stick back to me. Very funny drunken moment. The next day, I grabbed two 80lb Fenwick blanks and made each one of them a cue. RIP Ty, you taught me a lot even though we didn’t see eye to eye a lot of times.

You’re right about the stories Tom Pat’s favorite was the flintstone MG😂 Barbecue bunny rabbits was a good one too! Trying to get Rowdy to sign in He had some good ones from the Boobz Cruise days🤙

I know nothing about the $10 challenge or how Mr. F reached. But I’m sure it was a lot calmer than the way Jack acted after Springers swan dive

I may have to get out of the mountains and go fishing down there.. but first I need to figure out how to make this old reel quick clicking whenever I reel it and also get a bail. Dang thing has a big pully on it and it sounds like it’s full of sand.

We should get Lisa to organize a 70s fest this fall Everyone could fish live hardtails on 11 foot lamis and do dramatic touron clearing hook sets! None of this lame reel into the circle hook bs😂

Too many men and ladies passed during the ten plus years THEY didn’t have a pier and I’d give both my nuts for them to see what they dreamed about, a longer pier. September of 79 was bad, but September of 04 ruined a lot of lives. Come on Pete, not everyone can cast a Penn 65 with a foot long pencil cork a hundred yards. I would sure like to spend another day watching Wayne Ho in his perfectly ironed white long sleeve shirt and perfectly seemed pants work siggy and never get a spec of blood on him.
