Thread: How long? Not long! Cooler weather/shorter days!

Cooler weather is on its way! I promise! October has, historically, been a great month for fishing. Speckled trout/redfish/flounder/Spanish mackerel/King Mackerel/whiting!

Both in the Gulf and in the bays, cooler temps heat up the fishing. It's about to happen. It's a delightful time to be outdoors, one of the true joys of life! ​

It may take a little while longer, this modified tropical airmass seems to have a firm grip on the north central gulf coast.
At least there is no dramatic cool down in the forecast thru the end of next week (so far), but there is a rather large heavy high pressure over Canada that may bring some relief then...

Went from 92 for a high on Tuesday to 62 for a high today up here in Ohio this week. 48 this morning....brr..

Only problem is OHIO isn't on the BIO (bayou) LOL
Gonna be longer than we want it to be. Bay temp back to 83 today

There's a small, incremental drop in water temps, to be sure. The ambient air temps cool slightly and the days are shorter/the nights longer. This means that the water is warmed for a shorter period of time, while cooling for a longer period. The difference from day to day isn't all that noticeable nor dramatic, but it's going in a particular direction which is better for fishing in my opinion. I'm sticking to my optimistic notion about great fishing being just around the corner!

Water temp (@ 42012) drops below 80 by mid October on the average...

Sure don't seem like Fall here in Mobile, those cool first two weeks of September sure did spoil us.
I can remember when the Fall spec run started around October 15th, now its more like November 15th.

Cool air is coming....40 this morning.....still waiting on the first frost, leaves are turning & falling....but then that is central Ohio

I moved my fall month start time back to begin in mid October so I will stay until mid November and with the warm fall this year I am optimistic that it will prove a good move. I thank all of you guys for your info posts and read them daily.
