Having thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Gulf Shores Pier back in January, I’m headed back May 18th for a short weekend of fishing. I would appreciate any suggestions on catching Spanish or reds from the pier.
Hope to see you then.

I know some ppl will say.. 'use the search function'....
I will say bring a handful and variety of medium light-medium heavy spinning reels 8lb-17lb line accordingly.
Rig the lighter rods with a small weighted cork.. use about 3.5' of 40lb mono for a leader and tie a #8 treble to it, hook a live shrimp on and chunk it off the octi..(spanish can't resist it)
Also white jigs and belly strips work well for MACS.
Rig your larger stuff with a carolina rigged 'ly' or cut mullet or anything but NOT frozen squid. a #2 treble with about 18- 24" of 50lb mono leader and 2oz of egg weights above the swivel. this should produce reds, it always works for me.. You can also use half a blue crab or cut lady fish.
In a red 'boil' you can catch them on anything with a hook basically.. Just have a rod and bait/lure on standby for sight casting. I like the bombers or gotchas for that...
****Check mono leaders OFTEN!!
Is the weighted cork just a bobber? Sorry not familiar with them and googling not much help.

Yep, I’m not saying these are the ones you should get.
Its a hard foam cork.. Bobbers are round like a ball(imo)
Its narrow at the bottom and wider at the top.. a 3-4" one with a small weight will work nicely. If you cant find a weighted one just get non weighted and add a large split shot or small egg weight or two right below it.. you want it to float and to much weight can be bad, you gotta be gentle with them lil skrimps....
This is what the ones I use look like:
