I thought I saw a small one caught on a bait rig last year.

Re: african ponpano
Hunter Gianinni caught one about two years ago down around the T. I hooked and lost one at the same area last spring fishing for pompano and saw others around as well.

Re: african ponpano
Often in August & September (at th pier) we start seeing what locals call "thread fish".

These are juvenile African pompano.
They gradually loose the long ends of their fins as they grow larger.

Re: african ponpano
Some asians were screaming african pompano last weekend while dehooking a sabiki.
Had to explain to them what a harvestfish was.
It may have been 5" long at best, and they still kept it. :
Nice pics #er.

I hear they're excellent eating.

This Thanksgiving, I'm thankful for an abundant fishery and a magnificent pier, from which to access that fishery. I'm thankful for the morning view of the sunrise and what a spectacular view it is...
Happy Thanksgiving!
