Bass Pro/Cabela's has a sale on Penn Spinfisher V Series from $69.97 from Nov. 21-25 in store only, good time to replace or get Christmas presents.

Hello Everyone,
I just went out to my local Cabela's and purchased the "Red Hot Deal" on the Penn Spinfisher V series
reel. It's the model # SSV4500. I can really tell the difference with the smooth movement compared to my entry level Penn Pursuit ll model 4000. The only thing I have a problem with on the Spinfisher V is the stiffness of the closing of the bale. Is this something that will loosen up with use?
I appreciate all replies as always.

That feature is indicative of many 'tightly' manufactured reels Bobby.
It is recommended to close the bail manually (by hand), after a cast.
Rather than cranking the handle. This is less stressful on the gearing and the bail parts.

BTW, I went to Bass Pro in Spanish Fort this morning and got a 4500 SSV and a 5500 SSV.
They were going through those like the proverbial hot cakes ;-)

Thanks David! That is kind of what I was thinking on “manually opening the bale” after playing with it. It got me to thinking though....Have I been doing this wrong all my life? I have always used the crank to close the bale on a cast to stop the bait and keep the line tight. May take some getting used to but I couldn’t pass up a deal like this to make an upgrade to my tackle!

Using braid, manually closing the bail also helps with eliminating 'wind knots'.
