another "you never know until you go" post: Fairhope.
sitting on my butt, bored, decided to take a look at the Fairhope pier-cam. Almost 70 degrees, wind is howling out of the South. No one fishing... so what the heck. Past few times have been lousy but .. grab a few rods and go.
Wind is blowing so hard it's pushing my pier cart around, but no rain and 70 degrees so I'm ok with that. Using just enough weight to sink the bait and let it move around.
1st hour is filled with small (v small) whites and croakers, but plenty of fish. Next hour is constant 8-10" whites on bottom baits. Get 4-5 decent ground mullet too. I see a few flashes so I throw the jig and steady 8-10" whites.
ok, enough of this. Kept a few bigger fish so it's time to clean 'em up. Head to the cleaning station in the shallows and spot 3 rat-reds in the lights. Grab (the wrong) rod and toss it out... BOOM. Speckled trout. Nice one, 20". Didn't have my net ready so lifted it. The heck with the net. Toss again and boom- Speckled trout. Lift it, line breaks......... of course.
get the net ready, change to a heavier setup... boom. Speckled trout. Shakes the hook before I get it to the net.I'm 1-for-3 now. Move to another light, one small trout and one small Speck. Back to the first light. Set the net, toss... Speckled trout. Gotcha! 22". I'm 2-for-4 now... and I'm ok with that.

Sounds like you made out just fine in the end.

Thanks for the responses. I thought when I got up this morning that we would have 4 fishing, but now my G-daughter and husband want to go as well -- SOOOO - I am looking at a trip with 6. This...
