Depends on how messed up the water gets and how fast it clears. No way to tell until you get there...
Not sure how it will be at the pier after a storm but the day after hurricane Ivan was the best fishing I've seen in years and there was nobody else on the water so all my favorite spots were clear.
I was at four seasons a couple of years ago when the hurricane dropped to a tropical storm just before coming ashore (Ike? Ivan? name?) and we had 20 foot surf. The state pier had panels knocked out and was closed a few days, but four seasons pier is 2 foot higher and we never even lost a light. the surf was too high to fish the first day but the second day was outstanding. We had a river of sheephead swimming around the pier. Usually 15 to 25 feet wide and continually circling. Must have been tens of thousands of fish. Flounder also did well and some Spanish and reds. I have never seen schools of sheephead like that. The water got very calm and clear.
they have a tendency to cause strange and exciting things to happen. I remember one year two days after a storm came through Harley caught a 10lb gag grouper off the pier. I would be there first decent day after it passes and fish for several days in a row.
After hurricane Elena we caught a mess load of Grouper off the jetties. I will never forget that The Sea reaper A 63 foot resmondo sitting right in front of us jigging for grouper Inside the Pass Awesome Times
Glad we're coming next weekend and not this one
I remember Dennis Rice telling me about that, if I remember the story, he & some buddies took a small boat into the pass and literally filled it with grouper......Quote:
