August fishing
I'm coming down to Gulf Shores the first week in August. What besides whiting do I need to be fishing for in the surf? Daytime or night time? Thanks for any help..

Bluefish and ladyfish on topwater @ first light.
Then switch to subsurface plugs and spoons.
Then go to Gulp Shrimp on a 1/4 to 3/8 ounce jighead for flounder, redfish, etc. ;-)(RETIRED) mostly.

Ladyfish, is that what we call skipjack? Will the Spanish and pompano still be using surf area in the last week of July? I have never came down this late in the summer.

Trout will still be milling around the lights at night, so will flounder.

Somewhat but near as much as earlier and later in the season.
+1 on specks and redfish (slot-sized) and flounder too.
I mostly throw lures from the beach in mid summer because #1 there are so many leg-eatin-bait-stealers and #2 I can cover more territory faster to locate fish.
Luv me some first light topwater action ;-)
