Bait question

Here is the question.

Are there any regulations regarding catching a small spanish and hooking it on to use for King bait, or is this just asking for a Shark to take a set-up from someone.

I ask this after seeing that Steph could not buy an LY.

Curious mind wants to know.

Dang near impossible to keep the Spanish alive in the first place and, as you suspect, it would be shark candy. Dead, it would probably be no better than a cigar minnow.

A rather LARGE cigar minnow though ;-)
No doubt early kings are usually big enough to feed on spanish mackerel, especially in the 'key chain' size.
2nd largest king I ever caught on the 'old' GSPPier was on a spanish...

I've see some huge kings caught on Spanish on the pensacola beach pier and they have to be 12 inches long to use there. I think a keychain spanish would be a good bait this time of the year.

Reading this spring's reports from dOwn on the Sunshine Bridge pier in Tampa, the largest kings of the year (both 40+ lbs) have been caught on FL-legal size Spanish!
