LIVE, it gotta be LIVE skrimps!
Live will out catch dead (most of the time) 20:1
Just about any medium tackle (8#-12#) will work.
Hint: if you go lighter they will bite better ;-)
Get a net to land them as they are often 'lip hooked' and it might tear out when you lift them from the water.
Use small bronze single hooks (#6) like an Eagle Claw Plain Shank or Kahle
Rigged 'Carolina-style' with the leader about 15" long from the weight to the hook.
And use just enough weight to 'feel' the rocks on the bottom.
Don't confuse the "tap-tap-tap" for a bite. That is the shrimp jumping when a sheepshead is trying to eat it. Wait until you feel a "thunk" and the rod tip bends downward. Then sharply raise the rod until it 'heavies up, and give it a couple of 'jabs' to drive the hook home. Never 'snatch' the rod up when you feel a bite ;-)
Hope this helps!
