Winter pompano on gas rigs?
I have seen reference, but not much, saying that pompano tend to take refuge around rigs in the winter. Does anyone know much about this locally?
There is a video on youtube of some commercial guys racking them up at a rig in Louisiana. They are in long sleeves so coolish weather anyway.
People are shocked to see sharks in the water around here.
If you see natural water taste it. If it's salty it has sharks in it. If it's fresh it has alligators in it. If it's brackish it has both.

I'd have to say the video was made in late winter/early spring (there were some spanish mackerel mixed in).
And I have caught pompano around Alabama gas rigs in March & April while sheepshead fishing.
But never heard of many (any?) in Jan/February except a few along the Baldwin beaches eastward.
Looked like they were using a banana jig with dead shrimp...

Of course the video is maybe edited, but that’s the fastest I’ve ever seen people pull Pompano back to back out the water.
