#r, I remember you pointing out the weir when we were at the pass in Janurary. What is it for?
The longshore transport of sediment along out beaches is east to west.
The weir in the jetty on the east side of Perdido Pass is to allow sand to migrate from the east into the catch basin inside the pass.
The sand is then dredged out and bypassed over to the west side of the Pass.
If the weir was not there, the sand would build up along the jettiy and then start to shoal up the channel mouth.
Thanks Carl, there are Indian fish weirs from many years ago all along the Chattahooche for catching fish. Erosion control, did not think of that.
