Braid question.....

I joined the braid revolution, had j&m spool me up with the power pro slick blue 15# for a plug casting outfit. Works great, but I threw out several really bad wind knots. Just wondering if I was doing something wrong. I've seen you guys fish the stuff without ever seeing what I had going. I did hook up a couple times on xraps, and it was a rush every time one crashed it, hooked or not.

Close the bail by hand and don't overfill.

Great advice! Also after you close the bail give the line a little tug from the reel to make sure there isn't any slack. After a while you'll forget you're even doing it. Makes a huge difference in keeping the knots out of your line.

Thanks. I do tug the line habitually, but never thought of closing the bail manually.

I bought 2 reels that had that line on it, worked great......but it had some mono for top shot, the only way I will fish. It......when the braid started off the reel the line just took off......in the past, I would always get wind knots, so stopped using braid, except offshore for bottom bumping

If you're getting wind knots, it's easily remedied by getting a rod with the first eye set to like a fuji K. Larger eye canted at an angle so as to forgive the line coming off the reel fast.

Braid should be spooled on a reel with a fair amount of tension. Sometimes whoever is doing the spooling forgets that. I always try to remind them and stand there while they do it. Loose braid on a spinning reel will knot up if not tensioned right.

I am a noob but here are just some reasons that I think might have caused wind knots for me.
1. over spooled line (even though the line I spooled is within the line capacity). I usually would have wind knots for a few times and cut the line for a few times. And then I would have no wind knot problem for quite a while.
2. line spooled without enough tension
3. not enough tension when retrieve lures.
4. line damage.
5. reel not expensive enough(mine is penn battle) to spool the line evenly...
6. wind
