Thread: One Reel...Multiple Rods??

While I know that the correct number of rod and reel combos is N+1 (where N is the number you currently have), does anyone use one reel with different rod set ups for different areas? i.e. Using my 6500 Spinfisher on a 10' surf rod, and then switching it out for maybe a 7' rod for the pier? Is this done, or am I overthinking/complicating this??

That's an option, makes sense if you never use both athe same time.

I have a Penn 706Z and use it on an 8 foot pier rod and a 7 foot Penn Power Stik for boat fishing (though that has been a while ;-)

Another way to multitask your reels is to get extra spools and put braid on one.
My first experience with this was a Daiwa 1600 that I had three spools for 6#, 8# and 10# depending on what I was fishing for.
I wish reel manufacturers still offered this.

Multiple spools is something that I definitely haven't thought about! Now the wheels are really turning!

My left handed son finally got a Van Staal 150L a few years back and I've seen that reel on no less than four different rods. He doesn't have a favorite rod anymore, now that he has one reel he wants to use all the time.
