I was looking through cabelas bargain cave and found a tsunami 5 star rated 1/4-1 oz for 19.99 marked down from 60(I think). So I ordered 1 mostly out of curiosity. What arrived was a tsunami 5 star rated 1/2-3 oz in 7 foot. I'm not disappointed, just surprised. Its an inshore rod. Nice and light (compared to an uglystik). Just wondering about its potential as a pier rod.
Perfect for medium to + size fish I would think
Bill- how much tip flexibility should it have? And how should I measure it? Just curious because Pier #er mentioned that a flexible tip was a plus for live bait with kings.

Un less I feel it and bend , very hard for me to say......that is my test, when deciding where and for what I will use a rod for......the real test is casting and catching.....it's yours now, so just use it and decide as you go.....some rods I get to redo, I waited till I fish it, whether I will keep it.....if not I won't take the time.....I do like a little stiffer rod then most.....not really an ultra lite guy......just incase the bigger fish desides to play
Wish I lived closer to an ocean. Lol. The toughest fish I have to test it on are stripers and hybrids. Never caught a king or a red drum, so I'm not sure how they stack up.
A soft tip matters a lot for stripers if you are using dead or live bait. I used to fish a lot from the bank with multiple rods and would catch 2x as many on old fiberglass garcia surf rods with a soft tip as on newer carbon fiber rods.
Heck, for $20 its worth a shot!
If nothing else, you can stick a 4000 series reel on it and chunk bubble a mile.
