Can you use a cast net to catch shrimp in Little Lagoon? If so what size mesh net should you use?
for consumption? or bait? for bait i'd take my $ and buy a few from J&M, now if i wuz real hungry, i'd opt for a cast net, but i'd have to be real hungry...
I have caught a few using a 3.8 inch mesh net. I also have a very old 1/4 inch mesh net but I only use it when the bait is very small. E.G. small shad or alewives.
The Pass is closed to recreational shrimping by any method..

If you have any luck baiting them in I'd sure like to know the mix you use. We've tried catfood, hamburger mixed with flour, catfish food, catfish food mixed with flour and hamburger etc., and have not done any good in the bay.
So I take that as a "No". You can't catch shrimp in the Little Lagoon for bait?
If I read the regulations correctly the pass is closed permanently but the Lagoon itself is not. Without a trawl I would think cast netting would be hit and miss.
I didn't know if maybe you could get some around the docks at night under the lights.
Use Rabbit Food Easy to use as the pellets sink I've had luck with that
More work than reward in most instances. Lot easier to go buy them.
It is easier to buy them. In the 80's I used to have fair success at night off a pier with lights on the north side of the Lagoon and a can of the cheapest cat food you could buy. Punch a couple of holes in it, tie a rope on it and toss it out in the lights. Let it sit for a good while with maybe an occasional short tug on the rope. Pull in it and cast where it was.
