Breakaway Cannon Casting Aid : Cabela's
never seen one, looks like a gimmick to me ....might work with practice..... but sometimes you might cast over the fish anyway....more weight would be my choice, but then I am cheap...and that stuff I have been making my own....just made a batch of no roll sinkers today, since the last batch was sent down to the gulf coast.
interesting

Gets good reviews and I have had several spinning reels with triggers (kind of the same idea I believe) which I love! Might have to disagree on the gimmick aspect.....unless you change your mind about sending me a couple of your jigs to try ironman! LOL!
Thanks ironman, watched the same video myself earlier. Cabelas gives it good reviews, I never really trust the manufacturer (in this case Breakaway) reviews though.
I was casting 5-1/2 weight off the pier with no problem last fall (for an anchor) but that was with mono and not braid....and going out real good with 40lb big game....as stated sometimes you might go past the fish you might be wanting to target
can't wait to see how far the 8oz anchors I made go....off the beach it will be maybe 3oz no roll sinker if I fish the beach at all....like the pier so much the beach thing just has NO appeal to me except maybe including my Bride that doesn't seem to care for the pier and crowds it has at times
Oh yeah the Breakaway Cannon is just the ticket to save your index finger if you want to heave a huge weight and bait and rig from the beach especially with braid line.
Fortunately it's not always about size or distance ;-)
Kinda reminds me of this gadget, LOL

Yes, but does it make julienne fries?
i got a cannon its called a kayak lol...
They're popular with distance casting surf anglers around the globe but haven't been adopted here on the GOM coast as much. It's actually a very useful gadget to have if you're fishing heavy surf spinning tackle with 6oz + bait because it will allow your rod more time to load during the cast prior to releasing the line off your finger. It works just as well with braid and prevents you from having to use electrical tape on your fingers or gloves when power casting with braid. I see absolutely no advantage to having one for the pier.
They just zip tie on and wrap the zip ties with a piece of tape and you're set. I don't sling that much weight on a spinning rod anymore, I much prefer conventional tackle for heavy surf casting gear and it just is nt necessary here for the vast majority of the year.
