I used to catch bait at the pass at little lagoon on the lagoon side. Not sure now with all the construction.
There is also a stinkhole that always holds bait. If you take a right at the original oyster house and follow windmill ridge rd around almost till it ends at the beach, there is a small bridge and on both sides of the road that you can catch bait.
It's a good spot because you can generally catch small finger mullet and then even a few larger ones that are 6 inches or so. The only bad thing is that the water is nasty and there are bad fire ants in the area. It's generally the last spot I go to, but it almost always holds bait.
There are several spots all along Ft Morgan road too. The boat launch and farther down towards the Ft there are several places. Pretty much anywhere with easy water access, several grassy areas and launches. If we fish the Ft we generally stop at each spot until we find one holding bait.
Those are just the ones that I generally hit, I'm sure there are more good ones around.
Thank you, I'll try a couple of these spots.
The time of day matters as much (usually) as the location if you are throwing in relatively open water. For example, bait is easy to get under the little pier lights in the lagoon at night, but mid-day there's often none.
for sunny day success, find somewhere close to grass, preferably with a bit of depth, and you'll find the bait hiding out. Also, live shrimp are almost always in grassy areas.
