I haven't done it but I heard a few being caught a week or so ago and last year Tater was getting them. Those reports were from the pier.
I caught some last year over in pcola....fresh, fried, tossed with some pepper relish.....my goodness.
I just saw that Navarre Pier posted on facebook that they were catching squid yesterday... and Spanish.
The slightly more eastern piers seem to get more than we do but there is still definitely some at the pier. Got to go pretty late and look for them under the lights. Super small good hook sabikis with the glow in the dark work awesome. I bought some squid jigs last year but haven't found any squid to catch since then.
We've caught them under the lights offshore before. Not many but a few. I think fishing the lights on the pier might produce.
Up in the northeast and along the California coast, they run party boats at night to catch them. Same method: Put out lights to attact the squid and catch them on rod & reel using squid jigs. Certain times of the year, they fill 5 gallon buckets with squid in a couple of hours.
Thanks everyone for the responses!
;D
Let us know if you try for them, I'd be interested in learning the catching and cleaning of them.
Fried Calamari.... Mmmmmmmm!
