Wife decided we're going to Gulf Shores for New Years.(still coming down in May).Want to fish, what should be biting and what should I need.I know it is slow now and hope the sheephead will maybe be doing something as I've never seen one.Hate to bring cart and all my gear if a couple rods and a small tackle box will do.Thanks for the help!!December 26-Jan 2.
I have caught some sheeps under the Perdido Pass Bridge using ghost shrimp & live shrimp. I used a #10 treble with the live shrimp. The sinker will be about a foot underneath the hook along the wall and a Carolina rig up against the piling. This was done during the first week in Jan. but they don't stay there very long. I was down last year the week of New Years. I caught whiting, sheepshead, pompano and redfish all on live shrimp or very fresh dead shrimp and fish bites from the pier, the beach and the pass. I mostly used a Carolina rig with a fluorocarbon leader and a 4-6 kahle hook on medium tackle. I have made a week trip down in the winter the last 6 years. Some years the fishing is really good, some are ok and some have been like fishing in a wet desert....nothing. I've enjoyed every trip though and I plan on coming down again this winter. Good luck
