That is fine, neither too big nor too small.
Heck, they take my casted shark rigs with half a Mullet on a 16/0 circle.
Also nice is you can easily get decent hunk of bait on them, which is why I use them on my big double drops in the surf for Bull Reds & Big Uglies.
Never tried double drop for reds of course I only tried for the in that first trough probably should have put them Lys farther down but I'll try it next time haha is that double drop rig better and how u have urs rigged?
Exact same thing as a Pomp rig or Snapper rig.
You can make them single or double drop, I use about an inch or two of yellow neoprene sunglasses strap and a 7/0 circle.
I make mine from 50# mono, total length about 5', barrel swivel, 1.5' of line, 8" drop, 1.5', 8" drop, 1.5' to snap swivel/weight.
I bait them with whole peeled shrimp, chunks of fish and quartered Blue Crab.
Awesome Chile do I need to change my line out I have 20# mono on my 6500 battle 2 I figured that would be good for bull reds but not sure
20# is great for surf fishing Reds and most other species, just have your drag set properly.
Ok thanks one last one and I'll leave u alone is reds generally better in the morning in the surf
