Pretty sure the biggest migration is in April and May. I can go to the pier as often as I want but I do need to spend some time with the wife and daughter so I was going to swim or float out to the bar and cast a bait and then take the rod back to the beach and put it in a sand spike with a light drag. Then set out a couple of pompano rigs and kick back with a big glass of deep fried southern sweet tea.
that is awesome cause that is around the time my trip is planned!
Don't get too excited. This would probably take days of waiting to work if it ever would at all.
well it would give me something to do while sittin around drinking and hangin out with the family that doesnt like the pier
it will work there are just so many sharks it gets annoying fast i tryed it years back with live pinfish and mullet and it was a shark bite every 10 to 15 mins and i know guys whe soaked live eels and caught a few but that gets expensive i would say try the catfish or crabs or keep a rod with a live eel on the beach with u and watch the water i have seen many swimming within 15 to 30 ft of the lip pompano fishing u just need a live bait they wont follow a jig in that shallow
We fish Hatteras with a fish finder rig. LY or Crab like mentioned. You have a better chance catching one off the beach or using same rig on side of the pier. You and i can not out fish the local guys sight fishing on the pier.
