Coolers?
So I am going to buy a nice roto molded cooler for the new pier kart! After doing a lil research into the insulated rotomolded bear proof coolers a YETI is Ouch on the size I want.....has anyone dealt with Engel or the other companies that build the bear proof 10+ day rated coolers?

I just got my wife a ice kool cooler form j and m and really like it. Especially the fact that it has a divided compartment.

Re: Coolers?
Stay away from the dark color coolers they absorb heat and ice last no time.As for ice lasting 10 days, that's only if the chest is full of ice and never opened.Under normal conditions such as opening the lid to get a drink or bait 20 times a day, adding hot drinks or putting fresh caught fish in the cooler lessens how long the ice will last. You will still have to supply it with ice every day or two depending how much you are using it.We go through this a couple times a week with people trying to explain the more you use it,the less time the ice will last. Some people just don't understand that.

Re: Coolers?
Good advice John! :headbang:
One thing that helps in my cooler (a budget Coleman) is the ice jugs (5 Juicy Juice bottles of frozen water) placed in the bottom.
That helps cool anything placed in it and keeps the fish up and out of the thaw water in the bottom.
Last week I fished Monday afternoon until Wednesday pm, put 25 spanish in it both days and the jugs still had some ice in them Thursday morning when I cleaned the chest.
We just bought a bag of ice at the pierhouse each day to put on top of the fish.
Another thing that helps is to cover the fish with a wet towel.
Drying the skin out is almost as bad on soft fleshed fish like mackerel as getting too hot.

Re: Coolers?
Think I'll stick with my igloo marine 48 qt ($43 on sale at Academy) A couple of 2 liter bottles of ice will give a couple of good days and that's good enough for me. Heck, I could buy another one and keep it stocked full of those frozen bottles to replenish the main chest and I bet I could get four days out of it if all I was doing was opening it once a day to take a couple of bottles out. JMHO and not intended to criticize anyone else's choices.

Re: Coolers?
Yeah John I was thinking the same thing.....there are others that make light colors that are still affordable. Brute Outdoors Kodiak line looks good too.....Dive we know ;-) I want one big enough to stuff kings and cobia in just incase I ever pier one...;-)

Re: Coolers?
I know for a fact that my yeti will fit a 20lb king in it, but it takes a little work to fit a ling in it. Not to mention I don't think there is a cart on the market that will hold a cooler the size of mine from the factory.

Re: Coolers?
Jeb you are correct...so I am going to build one much like yours!
