Flounder still hanging close?
Hey everyone headed down next weekend and just wondering if some flounder are still hanging close to the beach line, or have they headed back out?
Plan on doing doing as much shore fishing as we can this year.

I think that in this recent season of a pretty good Spanish mackerel bite and a decent trout bite sometimes, there's not a whole lot of folks from here that are targeting flounder, as much. I haven't seen many at all "close to the beach line". But then, I'm only getting out on the pier two or three times a week, on average. This has been an okay year for flounder, but I know that some folks have indicated disappointment in the size of the fish they've caught. I've heard of a few really good ones caught, but most seem to be in the 12-13 inch category. Good luck shore fishing for them and let us know how you do.

What Tom said is consistent with my own observations and reports from others, and typical for this time of year.
New research on flounder is showing most but not all females move into the estuaries during the summer.
The majority that are left in the Gulf are males which are likely never to reach the 14 inch minimum creel size.

Flounder numbers in Little Lagoon are much better this year. I have only caught 2 or 3 undersized ones and over 20 keepers. Most are 16-19 inches. Almost all have been caught off my dock which is really nice. If I need fish for dinner, I just go out on my dock with a 3" shrimp gulp and can usually catch one. I've been catching them since March and most recently yesterday. I only catch one as I like them best fresh.

Thanks for the replies! Maybe I’ll rent a kayak and good around the lagoon a little.
