was wondering what y'all thought about the ibobber? anybody seen this? Castable sonar that synch's with your phone. was thinking of getting one and trying it at the pier. any thoughts on this or any other electronics that would be useful for pier or surf fishing.

Not to mention being out almost $100 the first time you get cut off by any of the toothy critters that frequent the waters around the pier, be it spanish, kings, blues, or sharks
IMO, pretty worthless on the pier.
All you will see is balls of bait or the bottom, which you can see just by wearing a good pair of polarized glasses (which no one should be without while fishing or at the beach).
Only electronics you need for the pier is your alarm clock to get out of bed and maybe your iPhone to check the weather radar and take pics of the fish.
In addition to the toothy critters just waiting to cut off your expensive bobber, there are the hordes of googans waiting to do the same thing as soon as you are hooked up.
... and a pelican might eat it ;-) lol
Now what I'd LUV to see is some video from an underwater GoPro!
just thought it might be a fun toy to play with. just drop it down by each light pole as you go down the pier and see whats around. Also have seen a remote controlled submersible drone with camera and sonar that looks like it would be fun to cruise around the pier.
The iBobber is on the Amazon deal of the day with a decent amount of other fishing gear, looks like its around $60 bucks. I've done some research and it seems like most people that us it don't use it with any tackle on it. Carl is spot on though about getting polarized glasses and the phone.
would it help in locating sand bar cuts and trough location from the surf. Must admit im not that good at reading the beach.
Looks like another issue is it works via bluetooth so its effective range from your device is no more than 100 ft.
I you really want it then go ahead and get it. I’ve wasted money on dumber things and I’m sure many others in here have as well.
