Anyone think something like this would be of any use on the pier? http://store.humminbird.com/products...x_230_Portable I was thinking about maybe taking it next time and using the castable wireless remote sensor to help locate fish....

No.
LOL! You don't have to be so direct. Anyway I use it when fishing from an old coal dock where I live and it helps quite a bit. Although with the number of people and lines in the water it may be more of a hindrance on the pier.
With the # of people on the pier during prime fishing season, you have a fish finder already out there.
I think it would work great. Just because there are fish does not mean that people are using the right bait. You could cast that out and see a lot of fish holding a certain spot and see the bait/lures they are using change to something completely different and just kill them.
I'm not a big pier guy but you all have seen people sit there and catch nothing all day and somebody show up and start dragging them in one after another.

Oh but I did need to be so direct, since I knew the answer, but did know how to elaborate without offending anyone. I also wanted to answer quickly to head off other comments that may encourage your idea. The water around the pier is shallow enough or clear enough to see an extremely high percentage of the fishable water around the pier. Your time would be better spent prospecting a bait into that unseen water at various depths than scanning with your sonar, not to mention the practice you'll be getting in bait presentation and depth control (probably the two most important fundamentals in getting a fish to bite IMO). Besides wouldn't the tether line count as your one line in the "use only one at a time" rule? Might it be viewed like a kite line is?
LOL! Damn I forgot about the one line rule!!!
I'm just waiting for the Spanish and kings to show up. I'm ready.
Take that money and spend it on a good pair of sunglasses.. Then train your eyes and make sure you actually look at the water while fishing...
Much better fish finder for the pier
I think the ramora's would like getting a hold of that and not letting go....think it was something to eat
