Guys, coming down and will likely fish from a kayak (see other thread). Need to get a good fish grabbing thingy...we don't use them up here but your fish have nasty teeth and I don't feel like forkin with them while in a kayak without a good fish grabbing thingy....what do the guys that live on the gulf buy and use.
I see all the videos where folks are using a bulky plastic grabber...is that the way to go.

It floats and has a hole at the top so if you have scales you can weigh your catch.

If you're going to catch kings, small sharks, or large snapper a short gaff is probably a good idea. I'm a boater, not a kayaker, maybe some other kayakers might chime in.
A small ball bat or something to tump them on the back of the head,if you are going to keep them.....it takes the attitude right out of them, I'll smack the kings on the pier when it's busy with on lookers
Out in a boat we always use a bat,
Small gaff is ideal. Just to hurry and get them out of the water before the tax man shows up. Or off brand boga grips.
Poorboy the kayak guys are making a Hawaiian spear out of threaded rods.I need to make one myself they are to be used for stunning a large fish.I saw it first on 30 miles out.Check them out it could be great on a big Cobia,king,etc.The threaded rod should be made out of stainless steel.There are lot of You Tube guys building them.You need to get some kind of protection from the sharp point when out in your yak.Next time I'm in Lowe's I got to get a threaded rod and build one for my yak.Take Care.
