Fish markets of the area
I see that there are several and that there are reviews by all sorts of folks. I'm more interested in the "favorites" of the fishing-type of folks. We usually stay way out by the Fort and don't fool with town much, but this time is different.
I'm looking for a take-out meal to get for camp the first night, possibly bait, and maybe some fish/shrimp to take back home when I leave.
Anyone have a favorite or have experience with more than one?
Thanks.

If your up for a little bit of a drive, I favor Joe Patti's, they are a huge fish market and have whatever you could want. They even have a website. They are over towards Pensacola.

Fresh Market is probably going to have what you want foodwise (not sure about the bait though)

Captain Frazier has LIVE shrimp most of the time, and they steam shrimp on the spot too.

Hope this helps!

We stay at Ft. Morgan. Fresh Market sells fish, shrimp, and often have bait shrimp. The marina near the Fort usually have live shrimp. If Fresh Market is out of bait shrimp, I buy fresh shrimp, and eat any that we do not use for fishing.

I third Fresh Market. They catch their own shrimp for food and bait while several of the other places thaw IQF product daily and put it on display. You know your getting fresh shrimp and not previously frozen if the heads are still on.

If its not fresh enough to eat, its not fresh enough to fish with.
I went into a local seafood shop not-to-be-named years back and asked if the shrimp on display "was frozen or fresh?"
The teenage girl behind the counter said "its fresh, we just thawed it this morning".
I then asked the older lady who ran the place if it was IQF and she smiled and said yes and got me a couple of pounds out of the freezer, still frozen and had been since it was processed on the boat.....
IQF is not bad, not as good as truly fresh, but no bad. Just make sure its still frozen!

Maria's in Pensacola is good if you're over that way. I get oysters there on my way back home.

Billy's in Bon Secour is good but will be a drive from there. Stop by the Tin Top restaurant too.
