Check the reports. Pier was good yesterday, but wind is going to pick up tomorrow and sunday.
There are sections dedicated specifically to answer your questions. Good fishing.
You never know unless you go....and if you do, please post how you did.....good or bad
Reading about it later isn't good if you had the chance to be doing it(fishing the pier)......unlike me
It looks like a cold front is moving through tonight. Today (if I were able to fish, which I'm not) I'd be out on the pier all day trying for croakers at the end, between the pilings and whiting in the surf. Fingernail-sized bits of fresh-dead shrimp on a Carolina rig should get some bites. The size/weight of the egg sinker that you use depends on the wind, mostly. It's not that the cold front would keep fish from biting - I just don't like the cold! Low of 39, it appears, tomorrow!
Although in previous years I have caught king mackerel into December, I usually put away my bigger tackle about now and only take my whiting/croaker setups in the later fall.
The weather will get blustery tonite and Sunday, then cooler.
But it will take a while for the water in the gulf to cool off...
Thanks to all who have replied. Our group went out last night & we left around 10 pm. We caught small trout and croakers using frozen shrimp. Best way to catch was by reeling in the bait at a slow rate and the trout would hit it hard whereas letting it set on the bottom they seemed to just nibble. Be blessed anglers of Alabama. Also was rigged with a medium slider weight with nylon 30 lb rig with a #2 hook.
