Fishing Reel and Line Advice
I am fairly new to surf fishing... I caught about 5 pompano, some sting rays and a shark last July and had a blast. I had some lousy gear so I am investing in some good stuff this year. I bought a Stradic CI4 with a duckett medium heavy 6'6" rod (Yes I know it is overkill, but my wife got it for me for Christmas. I plan on using this for my smaller rig and maybe jigging and throwing some spoons closer in. Should I put power braid on this or just a good mono? For my heavier rig I am considering a Penn Fierce 8000 with like a 10' rod. This for heavier and further casting. Any opinions? And if I get this rig what should I line it with?
Thanks in Advance!

[size=12pt]You don’t want or need a 10’ rod on the pier, its ok for the surf I guess. The bigger the rod, it’s more like work, instead of fun.
I would go with mono. The lighter the line, the better the castabilility. IMHO

I will be using this for surf fishing. I like to be able to hang with the fam as I fish!

[size=12pt]10-4, I thought you were considering something for the pier too, you should be fine.
Good luck, and at least come visit us on the pier.

Re: Fishing Reel and Line Advice
Sounds good for the most part, that heavier light rod may make it a little more difficult to feel bites but comes in handy when you got to lob a heavier weight when fighting heavier waves. Mono should be sufficient for now, but later if you need more capacity try it on one and be very careful. Stuff it dangerous.
