I thought we were already shut down completely.
Well, I meant take away the 11 days of partaking of our natural resources that the subjects are so graciously allowed .
Guess we will have to breakout the checkbook and go east youngmen.
The 52 day Fla season applies to the first nine miles which is ruled state waters and says May 24 thru Jul 14 is legal. It has nothing to do with the 11 day federal season which applies to waters beyond the nine mile limit for Fla. I have no idea what the Alabama state waters limit is or what the season is in Alabama state waters.
Alabama state waters extend 3 miles out and the AL snapper season is the same as the federal one. I called Alabama Marine Resources today to ask if they were going to allow fish from Florida to be brought back into Alabama and they couldn't give me an answer... not encouraging. I'm pretty sure in the past it was allowed as long as you discontinued all fishing activity when crossing the state line.Quote:

After 58 years I have come to the conclusion that our federal system of government is inherently inept at managing such things (as fisheries) and should be dismantled ASAP.
Alabama needs to extend its state waters and tell the Feds to kiss it. Until then, be ready for the green weenie!
I wonder if the Verne Minton nearshore reefs have any snapper. They are mostly within 3 miles.
