Hi All
I am staying at Orange Beach until the first of March, do you think if it warms up some soon that the flounder will bite in the surf or off the pier?? Some whiting would be good also. Any suggestions?
Thanks I really enjoy this site.

It all depends on the water temps. If it was me I would hit the pier for the flatfish, whiting can be caught pier and surf. Flounder will eat shrimp, bull minnows, other small baitfish caught from the pier, and artficials. Live baits, use a carolina rig with a 1/2 oz egg sinker. Artificials, like Gulp or jigs tipped with a bellystrip of fish work well too. Welcome to the forum Bruiser.
If the weather turns warm, things could pick up real quick. Few years back, the Spanish were on fire in early March. I am not optimistic for this year....
Attachment 1596Here is the water temps for right now it is rising i say mid march fishing should start to pick up a lot more
There are a FEW (as in VERY few) nice flounder being caught at the pier for the past week or so (mostly on jig&strip).
The surf zone around Gulf Shores and Orange Beach has been a 'dead zone' during that period for the most part.
I suspect because of the cold temps, mostly cloudy skies and extremely clear water.
When those variables change, I expect the catching will improve (possibly by the end of next week)...
Thanks for the info I appreciate it. I tried fiddler crabs off the sea wall today at perdido inlet with no luck. Thanks again.
