Thread: flounder question

ironman's gigging thread got me wondering, is bowfishing for flounders legal? license requirements if so?

I assume if these folks do it on charter trips, then it must be legal.....

Based on what I read I would think it is illegal, pretty hard to find an answer in the regulations.
Licensed sport ­fishermen may take any of the following fish at any time by bowfishing: shad, white amur, shark, ­mullet, or any fish designated as commercial or nongame except sturgeon, paddlefish or other ­protected species, provided however, that only one alligator gar per person per day may be taken.

Thanks, that shows you how much I know about saltwater fishes.

I spent an hour looking in the regs and did not find it addressed anywhere. I did find that it is specifically legal in Florida for all non-gamefish. I based my assumption on the belief that a charter outfit should know the law.
