    good fishing sept/oct

i am new to this site. my wife and i were thinking of coming down from OH for a week, either the last week of september or first two weeks of october next year. just wanting some opinions what weeks would be good for fishing and sitting on beach. probably fish off of the gulf state pier for spanish and surf fish for pompano, specs, reds, etc. ive been fishing obx nc for years and lived there for a while so i am not totally new to saltwater but have never fished the gulf in ala and we were wanting to try somewhere new and were looking for some advice to get started. any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks!!

October gets my vote. Cool in the mornings, hot but tolerable in the middle of the day. Normally dry unless we get a tropical system.
Pompano will be few and far between but everything else should be biting.

Take it from me and do you and your wife a favor Come to Gulf Shores in the first two weeks of October and you may never go back home I'm originally from NC and lived there most of my life and from a saltwater fishing and relaxing standpoint there is no comparison now to it and Gulf Shores Not even close Beautiful water Calm relaxing surf Wonderful weather and Outstanding Fishing Still not commercialized or crowded with friendly people I can promise you your first trip won't be your last

One thing to think about is that hurricane probability peaks in early September and drops rapidly thereafter. The farther you get from Sept 10th peak the less chance you have of having to evacuate.

People are shocked to see sharks in the water around here.

If you see natural water taste it. If it's salty it has sharks in it. If it's fresh it has alligators in it. If it's brackish it has both.

What DAN said. We visit in October, and have for 25 years. Some years we have fished in May and October, so May is also a good month to consider. Welcome to the Forum, an outstanding recreational resource.
