I am not from gulf shores but was there vacationing. A man was catching fish on the pier left and right. He told us the name of the fish but he said " around here we call them groundhogs". Can someone tell me the name of that fish please!

Ground mullet maybe? Also known as whiting or southern/gulf kingfish.
