Thread: Jellyfish

Just a quick question, I have not been south for a few weeks, have the jellyfish decreased any??Last time I was down, I tried wade fishing, could stand more than about 5 minutes in the water before all the jellyfish made me abandon the water

Was there last weekend and the jelly fish were still around.

Monday, the jellies were much less prevalent than they have been recently.
Every day is different, and varies depending on current, wind and tide...

Speaking of jellyfish, Monday I had a LY swimming free and a large round one floated onto my line with the current and slid down onto the LY which was momentarily covered and after the jelly floated away the LY was not moving so I let it rest and then it came back to life or so but was hurt and I had to put another one one. I was told these are not a stinging type but now believe otherwise.

Yes, even the moon jellies have stinging cells.
Sometimes after an LY gets 'zapped' by a jellyfish a game fish may take advantage of that 'easy meal', even though it has a little 'hot sauce' on it ;-)

The last time I was in saltwater, there were bits of jellyfish everywhere,I guess they were being chopped up by boat traffic, I was trying to wade close to the mouth of big lagoon near the mouth of Pensacola Bay, just hoping to be able to wade a bit this weekend, I can avoid the whole ones...

Was fishing around no name road last Saturday, 9/7 and no jellies. A couple weeks back we were fishing around gas rigs south end of the bay and they were everywhere out there...like a bass pond covered up with lily pads
