Heavy surf hook

Last couple of days bottom fishing the skinny water with heavy surf, I had a heck of a time keeping shrimp bits on the hook. Sometimes less than a minute before if was blasted off. Was using Mustad #6 wide gap (37140). Any suggestions on a hook that will perform better keeping the bait on? Anyone know of a salt water wide gap bait keeper?

I use a plain olde Eagle Claw #4 bronze baitholder for surf fishing, works for me.

Am I correct in my understanding that kahles are pretty much designed as 100% harvest hooks?

Salt the bait for at least a week and it will be tough enough to stay on the hook.
The fish will still think its fresh.
It works great.

try FishBites, they worked great on spadefish, I think they would be the ticket for whiting & ground mullet.

CarlF, what company makes the fishbites you speak of? May want to give some a try myself.

They use fishbites a lot out east in North Carolina and Maryland
Caught a 30# black drum on a little 1/2 inch piece.
Once I started fishing Florida and Alabama I kept them hidden so I did not get laughed at.
Glad to see they are working
