I have a friend at work that run into a large lot of old penn 700 series reels. I am looking to pick one up for my father since all are left hand reel and won't work for me. I want one that he can catch most of the fish from the pier with that being said the two largest ones he has are a 700 and 704 which one of the two would be recommended or what other ones would work (he didn't have 706 first I ask for). Thanks for any help
704 can handle anything you want it to. And you can put a manual bail kit on it if you were wanting a 706.

The 704 fer sure.
The 700 is the prototype version of the same reel but the spool and (more importantly) drag are inferior design to the 704 spool which can easily be upgraded with a HT 100 drag stack.

They are on Birmingham craigslist for sale. Just type in penn in search he found around 25 of them at estate sale.
If your father is left handed they will not work for him since older Penn reel with even numbers are for right handers .
