Hi Viz Line
I've been thinking about trying some colored line to help me see it better. I mostly fish for spanish with bubble rigs and don't think the bright colored line would spook the fish because I either use a clear mono leader or a wire leader from the swivel to the hook. I also fish for flounder with a Carolina rig and bull minnows but I use a florocarbon leader on that rig. Would a bright colored main line spook flounder? If you were going to use a "hi viz" line, what color and brand would you recommend. By the way, I need something I can see while wearing blue mirror Costas.

Re: Hi Viz Line
dont know about the line color situation but i know momoi is my line of choice

Re: Hi Viz Line
I use Berkley big game in solar green.
-
Re: Hi Viz Line
Flounder are sneaky and hesitant to begin with, don't see why you would need it for flounder bottom fishing. For kings and situations with lots of lines moving in different directions it can definitely help.
I like the momoi yellow for high vis. It can spook a fish in super clear water.

Re: Hi Viz Line
we used stren high impact hi-vis green.

Re: Hi Viz Line
A lot of old farts use HI- Vis line so they can see it, as long as you run a clear or Fluorocarbon leader off it, it is fine. IMHO

Unless you are including yourself in that category, I'd say you're walking on thin ice. Some of us old farts aren't so old fartish. :poke1:
ETA: I use it no so much for me but for others to see where I am.

I would be interested to hear your definition of "Old Farts"
Thank you

Re: Hi Viz Line
Whatever the definition, my picture is probably right next to it.
I like the blue Momoi---It isn't like neon, but I can still see where my line is so that I can get it tangled with the maximum number of people in the shortest time. I have several awards for that.

Re: Hi Viz Line
I use Momoi hi-vis yellow on almost all my rods. I fish mainly off the four seasons pier. It doesn't bother the flounder, but I do use a clear leader.
also use it for the speckled trout and they are VERY spooky. use it on spanish and king rigs too.

Re: Hi Viz Line
So far we have 2 votes green, 2 votes yellow, and 1 vote for blue. 2 votes Momoi, 1 vote Stren, 1 vote Berkley. What?........No votes for red Cajun line? Doesn't matter anyway, I don't like Cajun line. Let the voting continue!

Re: Hi Viz Line
i only use high-vis yellow if i'm fishing live bait under a cork, i've grown use to ande backcountry's pretty low-vis blue, and for flounder, i like braid or the knew abration-resistent cajun. :fishing:

Re: Hi Viz Line
I am an old fart and I find the hi-vis line helpful. I buy bulk spools from Basspro of a brand named Tightline. It has low memory and is inexpensive. I primarily use the hi-vis line on my crappie rods as I use only artificial lures and 4 lb test line. A large percentage of my fish are seen not felt thanks to the hi-vis line. By the way -- Being an old fart is wonderful --- the doctors told me in 1990 that I probably had a 1 to 3 year life span remaining. Just think about all the fish that made it to the dinner table that might otherwise have died of old age if I had not been around to catch them. Spring coming makes all of us dyed in the wool fisherman get excited about the days to come even though my freezer is still well stocked from the fall.

Re: Hi Viz Line
I use Trilene Big Game Hi-Vis/Old Fart Green 15# for King. Found a heck of a deal on several big spools a couple years ago and since I already was using Big Game, I loaded up. I also like the smaller weight Big Game. They make it as low as 8#, but hard to find it.

That right there will get you laughed at. Cajun wire is almost the worst you can get. I personally use Momoi Illusion. It isn't as easy to see as the blue, but is still more visible than clear line. Also once it gets under the water it becomes pretty invisible.
