Well I hope no one would but in day and time who knows. I live in North Alabama and gladly claim my veteran status. Go Navy.
Spent 11 years in the ANG and 1 year Army Reserves with a Honorable discharge and have all my files including my DD214,wasn't given a card when I mustard out but that was the mid 90's and things change I suspect
I have been asked several times at the pier house window if I am a vet, and I politely tell them
"No I never had that honor, and respect those who did way too much to claim what they have earned."
Then I hand them a $10 and tell them to put the other $1 in the veterans fund to help pay their way.
Yeah it's a small thing, but it is another way to say 'thank you" to those who put so much on the line.
When I worked at Bass Pro I made it a point to ask customers checking out if they were military (or formerly so), just so I could ring up their military discount.
It wasn't my money, but at least it was a way to help them and another way to say "thanks!"
Copy of DD214 should work but those of you in Alabama just take DD214 to DMV and they will add to your Alabama Drivers License so you always will have verification with you Maybe other states do also I just show it on my license and have had no problem anywhere
