Looking to buy a fish finder with chart plotting as well. Always used grey scale Hummingbirds but came across a Lowrance color series I liked after seeing it in a store. It's the Lowrance Elite 4 Series. Anyone have any info on them?

i have heard good things about the elite series.. also look at garmin.
I have an elite 4 dsi and its been great. And academy has them on sale for under $200 right now
I have a garmin 840xs and love it. The fact that it's side scan compatible is quite a plus as well.
I have always been a Lowrance guy but since they have let go the lady that had been
in-charge of the service and warranty dept about 3 yrs ago their service and warranty has been very questionable. Since Hummingbird's corp office and service dept is located here in Alabama I have vowed to purchase Hummingbird from here forward. I would take a look at their down imagining units if I was going to use it in salt water as you can really see the structure you are fishing.
I use both Humminbird and Lowrance on my boat. For down and side view it is hard to beat humminbird. Their draw back for me was the gps is not accurate under 2 mph and their chart that comes with the unit stinks. The Lowrance has the upper hand on charts and gps accuracy. You will want to buy a chip with either unit. I like navionics. Keep in mind I use mine for trolling for crappie on Weiss lake where speed is critical so my issue might not be your issue. They are both great units and what you see in down scan and side scan will amaze you and change you approach fishing
thanks for the input gentlemen!
