I give up lol

I have been reading and trying to learn some things about saltwater fishing, I've been here since Sunday with my wife and 2 boys. We have fished at Perdido Pass 3 different times and have managed 1 blue fish yesterday morning and this morning we got there around 6:00 and my youngest son had something that stripped all his line out and we didn't get another bite. We are fishing with live shrimp on the bottom and with popping corks too, what can I do to put my 11 & 9 yr old boys on some type of fish? We did walk the peir yesterday just to watch but we didn't want to bother anyone or get in the way so we didn't ask any questions. Do I need to try a different bait? Thanks for reading...... A HELPLESS DADDY LOL

Are you under the bridge or out near the jetty in the surf? Sounds like he had a nice bull red or a small shark.

We was under the bridge, I'm going to get some bigger line and reline everything shortly.

I was under the bridge a few days ago I was using a gotcha jig and also matrix shad and was catching bluefish, Spanish, and lady fish. If you use some dead shrimp on the bottom you will be catching catfish. You should be on the fish with the live shrimp and popping cork though. For the kids get a sabiki rig and weight the bottom and toss near that first bridge piling or around the wall and they should catch hardtail and LY (fun for kids). If you can make a trip to J&M tackle and they can help you out.

first mistake not asking questions on the pier(not everyone is willing ,but most locals there are) some will even hook up and look for a young person to hand there rod to so they can reel (fight) the fish in....at least see who is catching and see what they are using.....for the kids catching bait on the pier is fun, and even for me.
some days it's just not a catching day, but if you leave to soon you may miss the good bite when it happens ....wish I was there to help out, I like fishing but also like sharing with the young ones.....getting them hooked on pier fishing as soooo many locals I have seen do

If you aren't picky about what you catch then try fishing the Intracoastal Waterway (canal) on Canal Road just a few miles west of J&M Tackle. Fish live shrimp and you will catch catfish, ladyfish, and maybe a speckled trout, redfish, or black drum.
