Does anyone on here fish for crabs off the pier. And is there a link about crabbing in Alabama. Here is another question do people fish for squid of the pie?

I have not seen anyone actually targeting crabs or squid off the pier. Occasionally will reel one in while fishing.
btw if ya happen to catch one of those itty bitty squid, be careful cuz they will bite you.
Who knew, there is actually a crabbing forum:
Blue Crab Forum - Index
Honestly, there haven't been ANY blue crabs to catch around the GSPPier or on the gulf beaches since the oil spill.
IMHO the blue crab population on the northern gulf coast is about to crash :-(
Ive heard of a few over in Pensacola, while they are floundering after dark....but not many....not sure how well it use to be before the spill...and the squid I was reading in the spring I believe they were getting some over in Panama city off the piers, but couldn't find the old post when I went to look

We caught the hell out of crabs two years ago (2011), but this year has been bad. I've seen articles in the Press-Register about how bad it is, but they cannot yet tie it to the spill.
I read one post I supplied about the amount of fresh water keeping them away so far....you got me but the pic's I saw looked very tasty
We caught a lot of blue crabs from the pier at night before the oil spill, but have not seen any since then. I certainly hope it's just a temporary coincidence. My wife will not be happy if the local blue crab population crashes.
Before the spill, you could easily scoop them up with a crab net in Lagoon Pass,
Laurie and dip netted good numbers from the beach after the oil spill in the fall of 2011, maybe 400. We didn't catch any last year from the gulf however. This year we have caught quite a few (~300) from a local bay (Laurie won't let me be more specific). I do keep hearing about the downfall in numbers and that has me very concerned. Hopefully it is cyclical just like king fishing near shore!
