Night Surf Fishing?
What would you try if you want to cast & retrieve some type of artificial lure? Gulp Alive shrimp? Bucktail jig? Jig or spoon with Fish Bite trailer? Rattle Trap?
Any advice?

Berkley Nuclear Chicken or Natural 3" Gulp Shrimp on red 1/4 oz. jig head. Use a mono or fluorocarbon leader (I use 20lb. fluorocarbon because it's what I have, you can definitely get by with smaller). Also, bubble rigs are great as well. Fresh dead shrimp on a Carolina or Pompano rig may land you a flounder, sting ray , ever-present catfish, ladyfish, bluefish, croaker, whiting, and sometimes baby sharks. You can catch a good red or few if you're at the right place using a fillet of Lady fish then cut a diamond shaped piece out of the fillet. good luck
