If there was only one artificial lure you could take to the pier which one would it be. If you want to explain color and size, feel free. What would you mainly be targeting with that lure.
And how would that one lure change through out the year?

A 1/2oz white looney jig.
White looney jig. You can catch spanish, reds, blues, lady fish, pompano. Tip it with a belly strip and catch flounder. I think 5/8 ounce is standard size. They can catch more than I named but that is a good start. You can do a lot with it. Fish it near the top or bottom hop it. All you need to do is vary the retrieve. Lots of folks fish them but there are a few that are poison with them. Tater does as well with them as anyone I have watched fish them.
Would there ever be a time to use wire? Looks like I'll be picking up some looney jigs come Oct.
Tater is definitely the Looney Jig Master !!
Absolutely 2Y
The second time I get cut off using mono I switch over to wire.
IF the number of strikes drops off I switch back to mono, but they usually hit it just about as well.
Notice the Looney jigs below...

I prefer to bring more then 1....just which one to use till it's gone
Pier#r, is that a fisherman s not connecting the mono to the haywire?
No, but just about anything will work for that connection.
It is actually a Trilene Knot.
