The next generation...
We've been spending some 'quality time' with the grandkids lately. Especially our 4 year old grandson.
I'd been 'grooming' him all winter with a Zebco 202 and a practice float, but TODAY was THE DAY to take off the gloves and fish with a hook! ???
Implements of Bass Destruction: :violent

Digging worms: "This looks like a good one Gawkaw!" :eat:

First photo op: a goggle-eye I hooked and JW pulled in. :-\

The payoff: he hooked and landed this bluegill by himself (then promptly released it!) :yay:

Later, his first bass. :yippee:

Stylin for the camera before the release! :headbang:

After that it was time for some well earned recreation at the park...

On the way home I asked JW what he liked best between digging worms, fishing, feeding the ducks or playing in the park.
His response was "FISHING of course." I asked him why and he immediately chirped "Cuz you caught ONE fish and I caught TWO fish."

Some days you just hafto thank God you are a fisherman.
Thank You Lord! 8)(RETIRED) mostly.

Congratulations David. I know you must be proud. I have to say, he has one of, if not the, most knowledgable fisherman in the area. Maybe he will follow in your footsteps.

Re: The next generation...
What a great day! My 2 year old grandson is with us this week. He "vanished" for a minute and came back with two of my fishing rods in his hands and a big, big smile.
I figure that means he's a natural.
It was great taking my kids fishing....but grandkids are off the chart for some reason.

Great post David, he'll be hounding you now to go again. And that's a very good reason to fish even more. His smile says it all!
I'm excited to get my lil one out fishing.
Thanks to the Gulf Coast and all you Bama locals/natives for sharing this great place with me and my family. It's a real blessing to live down here on the Bama gulf coast.

Awsome post. Nothing like taking a kid fishing. And David you are one of the best. I certainly learned a lot from you growing up on the pier.

Re: The next generation...
Awesome! My little ones have a hard time standing still long enough to catch anything, though my seven year old surprised us all by reeling up a blue fish at the point before the line (no leader, I was hoping for a pin fish
).

Re: The next generation...
very nice !!! that is what it's all about....they need to like it, and not be forced....and seems he has that competitive spirit in him too, out fishing gran paw....nothing wrong with that....thanks for sharing :headbang:
I always plan to take breaks at the beach with the grand kids, for a little play time.... in between fishing(especially when it's slow) but the last few hours of day light when the fish turn on and we start catching they want to stay and NOT quit..... till they slow :yay:Bill..............

Re: The next generation...
Thanks all!
Yep, he DEFINITELY has that 'smak talk' in a big way.
When we play 'Go Fish' or 'Old Maid' he prefaces the card dealing with
"Gawkaw, you are goin down. Down to the ground. Down to the bottom of the sea!" ???

I figure it ain't braggin when he 'walks the walk' though ;-) :headbang:

This has got to be our best thread yet David; great story and pictures to cherish forever!
However, there is something he desperately needs; a hat just like yours!

This Thanksgiving, I'm thankful for an abundant fishery and a magnificent pier, from which to access that fishery. I'm thankful for the morning view of the sunrise and what a spectacular view it is...
Happy Thanksgiving!
