I prefer circle. An eagle claw l2004 9/0.
Circles
If Slots are plentiful I'll use a 4/0-5/0, if they're primarily Bulls then a 7/0.
Can't count how many big Bulls I've caught on my half mullet shark rigs and they've 16/0 or 20/0 circles.
Circle hooks are the way to go for bull reds. No need to set the hook, just start reeln'.
never lost one this way, unless line breaks and they're easy to unhook and release!
I don't target bull reds often, but when I do it is with a quarter or half of a fresh blue crab or a mullet head with a 6/0 to 9/0 circle hook and a tight line. Tight line meaning no open bail, no disengaged spool or no bait runner type feature employed. Just back off the drag a little, so not to allow a hard striking fish to pull a rod from the holder.
