My choices would be Gotchas (red head/white) Looney or bucktail jigs (white for me) or bubble rigs w/pink or yellow tubes. I prefer jigs myself, and don't be afraid to throw smaller lures and/or eliminate the swivels if you're getting cut off. I use 8-10lb mono tied direct to 20-25lb Fluorocarbon, approx. 15" leader.
By far, the most caught yesterday were on a large sabiki. Prepare for cutoffs.
When the water warms up, Bomber saltwater grade 1/4oz or 3/8 pompano jig. Back in the fall spanish were preferring those over the gazillions if gotchas being thrown at them.
Bubble rig with a white crappie jig -- fish are looking for a meal, not a deathmatch with something their own size.
