It isnt the size but the make. 12ft is fine as long as it holds you and is built for open water. The rest is skill. You have to get past the surf and you have to land in the surf. The rest is easy.
I got an 8 1/2 foot thats super wide. can easily fish standing up. Caught kings from it too

what is the brand and style? That may get more answers than just length.
I have an OK Scrambler and a WS Tarpon. Both are 12 ft and I've had plenty of king scales on both of them. I prefer the Ocean Kayak for rougher seas. However, the Wilderness System is more fishable and more comfortable in my opinion. Would recommend either one though. Especially for someone just starting out. Hope this helps.

the one i was going to buy isn't available so I'm in the hunt right now for one
Its a great investment. Opens up a lot of opportunities for some great fishing
^^^ ya thats why i want one to kill more fish
Just save a little more and wait on a used hobie deal.. It's well worth it.. Ask Ty J
Haha I see ya Peach! Yeah, if you can afford it, the foot peddles are quite a luxury. He's kicking circles around me effortlessly. But there are several local tournaments that do offer the hobies as prizes. Just outfish everyone else! as for fishing, it's not the yak, it's it's the operator. I'll show ya on Saturday Peach.
Tight lines.
i dont think i could afford it...
Dont jump on the Hobie bandwagon. Get one you can paddle that costs three times less than a Hobie.
... Coming from some one with a non-Hobie that cost more than a Hobie :)
Ive been out in 6ft seas in 25-30mph wind. Didnt see another Hobie out there. Ocean Kayak Ultra 4.7
I want a paddle bord.. ::) :fishing:

Cool. That should suit you just fine.
is little lagoon a good place to kayak fish this year? if so what can i catch?
***this time of year
Great for reds... Also if you look hard enough you can find some trout... They will be VERY scattered.. But if you find one, then fish the spot thoroughly there should be more.... Also go as light as possible on line size... And fish slowwwwww
ok thanks peaches
my 11' king fish so far has handled EVERYTHING i've put it through very well, though make sure your kyak is a sit on if you are going into the gulf, the whole sinking deal of a sit in isn't very appealing.
