Lady Fish
Is it common to have lady fish throw the hook? Is there something to reduce it happening?
Thanks,
Kevin

VERY common, Kevin.
Keeping the line tight helps sometimes.
Having sharp hooks for sure helps.
But honestly, most anglers are relieved when they shake the hook...

It's very common! I look at it as a blessing when I get a couple of jumps out of them and then they throw the hook. It seems more common for them to throw a lure than a treble with live bait. I suppose that the bait-treble hooks them deeper in the mouth where its possibly softer. Just a guess. I've been bringing them over the rail recently when they grab my live shrimp. When/if there's a decent slot red bite, ladyfish fingers make good cut bait.

I enjoyed the fight. This was the first time I've really gotten into a bunch of them, and did save a couple for cut bait.

I've often read and heard that freezing cut ladyfish is a waste of time but last year I thought I would put that to the test. And I discovered something. What I had read and heard was absolutely correct.
